The quiet locality of the accommodation gives participants the perfect opportunity to relax in-between rehearsals in the beautiful grounds of Shuttleworth College.

Twin rooms can be provided on request. We have had an increase in interest from family members and The Mansion House can offer limited availability of en suite rooms. Please contact us for further information.

Please remember to bring towels. Bed linen is provided.

This year the bar will have extended opening hours! The social calendar is an important part of the week and we have the added bonus of evening performances from members of the jazz course. All course participants must be over the age of 18. ID will be required. There will be late night extensions.

Social Events

Social events for the 2012 Summer School will be updated on the website soon. Invited musicians and tutors will perform during the week and further information will be given on arrival. All performances are free to course participants.

The Conductors Course

The repertoire list for the 2012 course will be listed on the Conductors web page in early 2012. It is expected that conductors will but and prepare at least one work on the list. The list has been chosen by Laszlo Marosi and Guy Woolfenden and include works from beginner to advanced conducting levels. All scores can be purchased online or at any good music shop and we have listed the publisher to assist you. Please also bring a score and parts of your choice which can be performed by musicians during the week. The scores must be suitable for wind band or smaller chamber music ensembles for either: woodwind, brass, or percussion. Please feel welcome to bring a variety of your own compositions for ad hoc performances. Jazz musicians may also be available to you throughout the week  Students are also required to bring a camcorder videotape if they wish to analyse their conducting. This is highly recommended. All participants must bring their principal instrument and doubling instrument if applicable.

Wind Band Course

Students that wish to apply to be principals of sections need to inform us on the registration form and must attend on Saturday 8th August for an audition. Music for You Course Directors will seat all other musicians. Students are asked to bring all doubling instruments where applicable.

Concert Dress

All students are required to be smart for performances. The Symphonic Wind Band will be required to wear all black. The Intermediate and Beginners will be asked to wear a coloured shirt and black trousers/skirts. The jazz course participants are asked to wear something colourful and distinctive! Conductors and singers must also wear a suitable dress, suit or DJ.

We would appreciate if course participants could bring one or more music stands.
Course T shirts will be available to purchase during summer school week.
